Digital Signage 101: 2 weeks studying in Scala's Nordic Offices

One lucky person spent two weeks in our office in Oslo to learn more about the business of Scala and digital signage in general.  Nickolai M. Ugland was challenged to write a blog for us on his last day and he rose to the task.

Having been interested in digital signage for a while and not understanding fully how helpful this software could be to a company, I contacted the Nordic office of Scala to see if there was space for me to learn more about this intriguing company that was at the forefront of digital signage.

I first entered the Scandinavian office in Oslo, Norway and not knowing what to expect, I was welcomed with open arms and quickly introduced to likeable staff and was offered a desk.

The VP (Truls Baklid) jokingly told me that to prove myself in this first week, my aim was to get a major client, not fully knowing to my distress what digital signage was…

I proceeded to study each piece of information I could get my hands on to fully comprehend the opportunities Scala could offer clients and was pleasantly surprised to find that Scala was almost everywhere (even if you had not realized this). I figured the opportunities for further expansion are close and emerging markets could be tapped.

The shipping market for instance covers ship brokers, charterers, management companies and insurance companies – Protection & Indemnity Clubs – whose core purpose is reducing risk and preventing loss. Digital signage can be present in the office and in the P&I Crisis Management Room where their main goal is gathering information to reduce their costs in the long-haul by managing the crisis quickly and efficiently.  Thus, Scala’s products can update information automatically, in real time.

I believe that the products Scala possesses can be beneficial to a majority of businesses operating today, and such benefits can be directed according to business needs and what they would like to achieve. Be it employee motivation, information control/awareness, dynamic imaging or promotion, there is a Scala solution for every application.

Many thanks to the kind staff at Scala’s Oslo operations and I very much hope to return in the future.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay with the company and recommend it thoroughly to anyone who is thinking about entering the digital signage market.
